the Blob, Petroleum


Back in the 50s some science fiction guys dreamed up a fantastical   alien threat to humanity, a horrifying amorphous blob that devoured  everything  in its path.  Nobody predicted that only 50 years later,  it's real,  it's here, and it's coming to kill us.



Check out this  site: it's a real-time satelite feed showing a map of the current  extent of the surface slick from the oil volcano. You can move it around  to get an idea just how big it is. Type in the name of  your home town and see how it looks.

Here's a screen shot of it centered  on Seattle, wiping out three National Parks, all of Puget Sound, the San  Juan Islands and Greater Sea-Tac Metropolitan area.
